• New species found in environment study
New marine species have been found in
the latest research on Northern Ireland's natural
environment.

• Applications open for £4m bio-energy
grant fund £4 million fund
to support the
installation of biomass-fuelled heating and combined
heat and power projects, including
anaerobic digesters, was opened to applications
today. Applications are welcome from
industrial, commercial and community sectors.

• Massive wind energy plan refused
Plans to construct one of Europe's largest
onshore wind farms has been refused by the Scottish
Government. It said Lewis Wind
Power's (LWP) 181-turbines for Lewis on the Western
Isles did not comply with
European law protecting sensitive environments.

• Environmentalists
disappointed by UK's renewables record
The UK's renewable
energy performance is a "national disgrace",
environmental campaigners claim today.
Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and Enoughsenough.org
say the UK is flagging behind
Germany in terms of renewable resources.

species Britain's dragonflies,

For tourists relaxing in the hot springs of
Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon, just outside the
capital Reykjavik, the issues of climate
change and energy security are not likely to be
occupying most bathers' minds.

• Funding For
Zero Waste Technology In the week
that the Scottish public was urged
to ‘love food’ and ‘hate waste’,
innovative projects that treat organic waste will
be funded
by up to £6 million, available over the
next three years.
